“But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.” [I Kings 19:4]
“Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.” And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.” [Jonah 4:3,8]
“And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.” [Judges 16:30]
“Now, a righteous man is not a sinless man. For you notice he said, "Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are." He had his ups-and-downs and his differences. And the Scripture of his life proves that he had his ups-and-downs like we do. And he had his times of wondering and his times that his temper got away from him, and he had a lot of things, that went wrong. But he was still a righteous man, because he confessed his unworthiness and believed in God. So that's what made him righteous. We're not righteous within ourselves; we're righteous through Jesus Christ. I cannot be sanctified within myself; I am sanctified through Jesus Christ Who stands in the--in the Presence of God in my place. It isn't my holiness; it's His holiness. My holiness won't work at all, but His does. Because God done accepted Him. And in accepting Him He had to accept me, because I'm in Him. Amen. That's what makes it real isn't it. Then we don't have to depend on ourself. Now, that doesn't make us say we can sin. Brother, if you sin, you're just--you're just away from God. That's all. There's only one thing to do, is confess it and get right with God. As long as you desire to sin, the desire of sin's still in your heart, then it's time to stay down at the altar till that thing's taken out. Now you will sin. You're bound to sin 'cause you just can't help it, but not willful sin. "He that sins willfully after he receive the knowledge of the truth (See?), there remaineth no more sacrifice for sin." But every day you're bound to sin.” [53-1201  God's Provided Way, West Palm Beach FL]
“And it's very strange. Pastor here knows, and other ministers. Watch after your Mount Carmels, you're going to have a juniper tree. Whenever a man has a blessing, and the power of God pours down and does something for you, look out, Satan's on the track. Just remember the next day, that Monday after a good day on Sunday, it's going to be a hard thing, because he's going to do everything he can to knock that confidence out of you that the Holy Spirit instilled in you the day before. So Elijah had a big day. And he's nervous anyhow. All prophets are--was could declared insane, Jesus Christ was declared insane. Every one of the apostles was declared insane by the public, 'cause their ministry was so supernatural till the people thought they were out of their minds. Everyone that lives godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecutions. You become a different person.” [59-0301E What Does Thou Here, Jeffersonville IN]
“Men who deal in the supernatural, who stay in the Presence of God, and when you see God's program turned down, and you preach it, and you try your best, and do everything that God tells you to do, and still they walk away from it, it's heartbreaking. God Almighty has done enough here in Angelus Temple this last week, till it had Los Angeles set afire. No wonder He said, "It'll be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of the judgment." And the poor little fellow, skinny, laying there and his gray hair hanging over his shoulders... God said, "My servant needs some rest." God's mercy to his servant, He just laid him down on the bunch of weeds and he went to sleep. I'd imagine there was ten thousand Angels watching him sleep. There's one assurance the believer has, though the world turned him down, yet God loves him. The world may call you holy-roller; they may call you fanatic; but if you're true to God there's one sure thing: God loves you, and His Angels are encamped about those who fear Him.” [59-0412E What Hearest Thou Elijah, Los Angeles CA]
“Sometimes you feel like, as I did one time, put a pistol against my head to commit suicide, but I couldn't do it. I took my glove off to lay it on a high voltage line where I was working, but I couldn't do it. Something still held. The same God that was with Elijah, that same God today He seen me under the juniper tree, my wife and baby laying in yonder in the grave, and my daddy, and my brother and all, I was just about gone myself. I've laid under the juniper tree. It's hard. And I got to a place I was so beside myself, I tried to make a gun shoot my brains out, and it wouldn't do it. See, there's work yet be done. Something has to be done; God wasn't finished. He'll always take care of you.” [59-0301E What Does Thou Here, Jeffersonville IN]
“When you're up there it's wonderful, but it's when you're coming out. Look at Jonah the prophet: went down with a message of God, and prophesied to the city about the size of St. Louis, Missouri, to a people which didn't know right and left hand. And his message was so forceful until they put sackcloth on their animals. And then when the Spirit left him, he was so depleted till he set under a little tree and got angry and--and wanted God to strike him dead because a little cutworm cut the gourd tree down. Is that right? Look at Elijah the prophet. Under the inspiration stood there and called fire out of heaven, called water out of heaven the same day, and killed four hundred priests, and run at a threat of a woman, run out into the desert, and was out there forty days and nights wandering around. The Angel woke him up when he was a sleeping and fed him twice for that long journey. He was wandering in the desert, not knowing where he was. And when God found him, he had been pulled way back in a cave.” [57-0809 Blind Bartimaeus, Edmonton AB]
“Look at Jonah, the prophet. After receiving inspiration to keep him alive in the whale's belly, and preach with such inspirations till a city, size of St. Louis, that didn't right from left hand, repented. And then went, and after the Spirit left him, he set under a little gourd tree and prayed, God let him die. Look at Elijah the prophet, after calling fire down out of the heaven, calling rain out the heaven: the same day the Spirit left him, and--run in the wilderness for forty years, and was lost, and had pulled back in a cave, and God found him back in a cave. So if you see those things, you won't wonder why a little weakness strikes a person. See? It's something that's hard.” [54-0721 Sirs Be Of A Good Cheer, Chicago IL]
“Lord Jesus, I pray now that You'll receive us. I'm putting myself right here with this group, Lord. Take all my unbelief, Lord, away from me. Let me die, Lord, as Samson cried, let me die with these Philistines. Let me do whatever it may be for me to do, but, God, cleanse my soul. Take all doubt away. If there's anything in this Word that I don't believe, Lord, and if--if there's not something here that You've promised, that I can't see my own life being vindicate that Word for this day, then, Lord, forgive me. Forgive me, Lord. Give me courage. O Lord, I need courage to cut down this thing, cut this wall, for I know it's Your desire. You've spoke it, it should be in this day, "As it was in the days of Sodom, so shall it be in the coming of the Son of man." We see this last move, this last sign that's been given to the church. That was the last sign of Abraham's natural seed saw before the fire burnt up the Gentile world. And so is it the last sign that His royal Seed will see before the fire burns up the Gentile world. You... Lord, may they see that's just exactly the reason Jesus had to be born in Bethlehem. It's Your Word. It's Your promise. Bless them now, Father. I give them to You, as trophies. And may we, together, Lord, pull the Word today, and march forward in Jesus' Name. Amen.” [63-1214 Why Little Bethlehem, Phoenix AZ]
